Slum Soccer team invited to the International Swiss U16 Cup

The unique social aspect of cup is aimed to be strengthened once more at this year’s tournament. Hence, the association „International Swiss U16 Cup“ Invites this year for the sixth time, a special guest team from of a crisis respectively development region to the cup. The project is realised in collaboration with the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Adviser on Sport for Development and Peace, Wilfried Lemke, and the financial help of the principality of Liechtenstein.

The Special Guest team consists of U16 teenagers coming from Indian Slums and is shaped by the organisation Slums Soccer.

Slum Soccer uses football as a perfect vehicle to transcend race, religion, language and gender to bring about a change in the lives of street dwellers. They describe their objective as followed: „We aim to provide long term solutions to combat rife homelessness and improve living standards within underprivileged areas.“

The International Swiss U16 is a unique opportunity for youth to compete with European football clubs. Furthermore the occasion can be used for cultural exchange between the different teams.
